Federal Councillor Martin Pfister to attend the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore
Bern, 29.05.2026 — Federal Councillor Martin Pfister will attend the Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) in Singapore from 29 to 31 May. The international security conference will focus on geopolitical developments and issues relating to international stability.
The Shangri-La Dialogue, organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), is considered the most important security policy conference in the Asia-Pacific region. Held annually in Singapore, the conference brings together defence ministers, high-ranking military officials and security experts from Asia, Europe, North America and other regions. The aim of the conference is to promote security policy dialogue and to discuss joint responses to current security challenges.
This year’s edition will focus on issues including managing regional tensions, the security implications of geopolitical rivalries, and cross-border threats.
Security policy developments in the Asia-Pacific region and their implications for Switzerland
Mr Pfister will participate in the plenary sessions and hold bilateral talks with his counterparts. Topics will include security policy developments in the Asia-Pacific region and their implications for Switzerland. The United States’ increasing strategic focus on the Pacific means that European countries – including Switzerland – must take greater responsibility for their own security and strengthen their defence capabilities.
