Switzerland's energy supply is assured
Berne, 17.03.2026 — The Steering Committee on Energy Security met on 17 March, co-chaired by the head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), President Guy Parmelin, and the head of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC), Federal Councillor Albert Rösti. The specialist committee confirms that Switzerland’s energy supply is currently secure.
Security of supply in Switzerland currently assured
The escalation of the situation in the Middle East has led to higher energy prices and is already having a noticeable impact on the global energy supply. However, Switzerland’s energy supply is assured at the present time.
Next steps
The Steering Committee on Energy Security, which was first convened in March 2022, will meet again as soon as there are indications of a change in the situation. Various stakeholders are responsible for ensuring the country’s energy security, and they intend to tackle these challenges together.
Given the stable supply situation in Switzerland at the present time, the Federal Council has no legal basis for intervening in the market. In the event of an impending or existing severe shortage, pre-planned measures – such as the release of compulsory stockpiles – will be implemented.
The Steering Committee on Energy Security comprises (in addition to the heads of DETEC and the EAER):
- Conference of Cantonal Governments CCG
- Conference of Cantonal Energy Directors EnDK
